DW003_06 : “I was out in Mauritania ten years ago attempting to cross the Sahara to participate in the Sahara Marathon. I later found out that over the countries southern border Steve Reid was recording Daxaar with Kieran Hebden (Four Tet) in Senegal. Steve’s story, journeys and music are an inspiration. These are oil rigs outside of the dock in Las Palmas where Steve’s drums were dropped in the Atlantic by a Porter and he apparently roared his notorious laugh saying they’d now ‘been baptised in Africa’.”Pete
